Where on earth have I been? I abandoned my friends for 4 whole days. I think in blog-land years that amounts to, 7? As the story goes, it had been seven long blog-land years since the elf had seen her beloved girls……Alas, she was entranced with the giant rain-drops and the little creatures they brought…
Yippee!! We got rain! Rain?? YES, Rain. Finally. However, that meant we lost power for hours. 3 times while trying to write a blog post, to be exact. I took it as a sign and immersed myself here, with my "spinster kit"… Something every good spinster should keep her tools in…
I was in the paints for several days too… Although, I have put away my giant lot of oil paints…Why? They are taking too long to dry, and my current obsessions of layering papers and paints, with all their processes, need to dry quickly…
I love saving my Bon Maman jars after we devour the jam. We go through a jar of raspberry every week…. So, I get my fill of jars to use for such things as paint brushes…
I also did something huge. You see how that paint palette looks nice and clean above? Well, it weighs about 25 pounds. As, it houses years of layers and layers of paint… So, I removed everything from on top of it, and flipped it. Here is the underside. It literally has rolling hills of paint on it…
I am embarassed to say that, although I have 4 wonderful easels, I am still infatuated with my "painting door." Although, it is looking very very "scary ugly," as is the floor below… Oh well,….
Here are some of the friends that I made this weekend.. Which can be found in my, A Fanciful Twist shop, today.
This little girl is vivid in my life right now. She is as Mr. Lovee put it "so adorable." You want to pluck her right out and keep her… She will be part of the A Peculiar Day series. The first which has already gone to live in a lovely home and now this one…
On a Peculiar Day – Reading Fairytales to Mr. Agaricus…
The next creature toyed with my emotions… Oh, the tales the faun shared… Wanting just one day to galavant in a glorious paper gown…
Obviously, I gave in…I am in love with these colors. The many layers of paint and papers are so fun in person…
The title of this painting is, "The Faun's Nocturne.."
During the biggest storm of the weekend, I drew a bunch of sea treasures… I sat and sketched them on parchment cardstock, in pencil. I then cut each one out while watching Mansfield Park for the 400th time. The sea-girl is more of a sea serpent…
I have been reading old accounts of mermaids, as told by sailors. What interesting snippets indeed. In the olden days, the tales of spying mermaids, described them more as serpent like and less fish-like, from what I gather…
I have so much more to share. However, things are against us, as I just lost this entire blog post and had to attempt to reconstruct before the power goes out again…..Until next time…(no time for typo repairs either.. yikes..)

Ah, I love your photos of paint tubes and paint “hills” on your palette! It’s been a while since I’ve had space to paint, being limited right now to a small closet-kind-of-room, but I remember longingly while reading your post. I especially like the layering you’re doing in your paintings. Perhaps you are aware of Miriam Shapiro and other women artists with whom I exhibited years ago during the first urgings to add “women’s work” to art? We added text, sewing, layers of fabric, and all sorts of stuff to the surface – new and exciting then! I look forward to seeing more of your explorations! Pam
You do *such* beautiful work
Hi babe – man you have been a busy girl. I too am back in blogland so stop by and see me soon.
xxMichelle
Even if there is a bit of time between posts I assure you it is WELL WORTH the wait! These are STUNNING and MAGICAL and yes…swoon worthy!!
I hope the power comes back on and stays on….I want to see MORE! heehe!!
Stop by some time…say hello, have a cuppa!
XOXO
oh, I love the look of the paint door and the paint on the floor and the tool box….I have a similar situation…I’m learning to embrace it.
You need to get a glass palette, like, yesterday. Because then you can scrape all that paint right off. I like the squares of glass meant for stained glass work at the craft store. Just get a white one and tape off the sides with masking tape so you don’t cut yourself. I need to get paint. There is so much I want to paint. I wish paint was free. I wish a lot of things were free.
Good paintings. Cute mushroom sprite!
Hey, you! Looks like you’re having fun–I love the hills of paint, too. Nothing like a well-lived-in studio.
“Mansfield Park” with Frances O’Connor & Jonny Lee Miller?? One of my absolutely faves. “It could have turned out differently, I suppose. But it didn’t.” Lovely!
Vanessa,
It’s all so magical. Really, really lovely. I’m with you, I adore the colors.
It’s been rainy all weekend here… and we managed to get the bedroom painted (but not the trim). So much work…
I love Lovee’s Adorable Girl!!! Can I have it?? Or can I at least have a print of it? I love this new thing you are doing with paper dresses. I think you should have an exhibit in a museum. Actually, why don’t we open our own museum/art gallery/shop. I need to get sewing. I need some inspiration. Maybe I’ll take a trip to the vintage shops in Globe…
You’re forgiven for missing a few days. I’m guilty of that alllllll the time. 🙂 As long as you come back!
Those mermaids are AMAZING! You always have the most beautiful posts overflowing with beauty!
Ooooo! I am grasping for your hand as the lights dim..helllooo! I love your mermaid…. PAM ARIES!!!

I am loving these paper dress dolls, this set of new artwork shows a more ‘grown-up’ side of Vanessa 🙂 Really adore the Peculiar Day series and The Faun’s Nocturne, can’t wait to see more…and thanks for sharing the painting door and the red guy who’s holiding up the cable, cool! ** for some reason, the mermaid one reminds me of ‘The Ring’ 😛
Hooray for power cuts if they force you into spending time in your studio producing such amazing work. I love having a little glimpse at your tools and the way you use them.
Mr Lovee is right she is “so adorable”.

One of the most frustrating things in the world is loosing a post!! It is a test in patience and perseverance for sure.
oh…The Faun’s Nocturne is so so so so so lovely! And speaking of mermaids….or rather Selkies in this case….have you ever seen the Secret of Roanne Inish!? ( I may be spelling Roanne wrong….in fact I most likely am…) But really you MUST see it if you have not.
Oh….and HOORAH for the rains! 🙂
My old art board looked like your paint palate it had years worth of paint and glue and paper layers, it was not even flat just bump after bump until it became impossible to work on…I was so sad to give it up…I felt like some of my creative mojo would go with it, does that even make sense??
I love your new pieces, I wish I had a skirt like the ones your girls have
Oh my goodness, what absolutely beautiful work!
Ooo power outages and wonderful art! Yes, you and Kandeedo need to open a museum! A traveling one…on wheels that heads in directions like Ky. and Tn.
Come see Shabby and tell your revel-ly things 🙂
What wonderful mushrooms, and such lovely girls to match! It has been wonderfully cloudy and overcast for a couple of days here…a little chilly at night too, which leads to the ultimate snuggle under the feather comforter…it’s pure bliss!
Your artwork and photos are beautiful, and inspiring!
🙂
I’m wondering… is Mansfield Park good? I’ve not seen it yet but love films from that time period. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite movie of all time. So wonderful to sit and watch while it is raining.
Love the new pieces! So magical!
love the figures, they are divine:)

we got rain too! yay!!! i took fiona outside and as drops were falling on her i kept saying ‘lluvia, lluvia’, i don’t think she even remembers last time it rained.
Enormous paint palletes, gallons of rasberry jam, spying mermaids, storytelling fauns, buckets of rain, and power outages. THESE my dear, are just the exact kinds of stories I love to find when I come a’visitin from the land of No Rain.
This style of yours is my favorite. Clever, artistic, interesting…beautiful. Clever creative you!
One day… one of your originals will be mine.
And that sweet little girl would fit perfectly in my pocket. I am going to just imagine her riding around in there…
Awesome pictures shared here. I like it all. It’s pretty tough to make such beautiful poster but you done it well. Thank you for this fascinating post!
