Life is Like a Paper Flower…

I have no idea why this post is titled as such.  But maybe it's true?  I have been going, going, going, and this afternoon my body said, WAIT, slow down.  Read a little, relax a little…

A day 1

But my brain said, hang on I still want to do this and this and this…  And guess what?  I am here typing so I guess I have not totally listened to my body yet, but I will as soon as I get a few minutes with you 😉

Oh and, before I forget, remember the dolls that were in the cover story of Art Doll Quarterly magazine in the fall?

Paper flowers 4

They are back in my shop.  They have been on so many journeys, and quite frankly, after all their excitement with shows and magazines, they are just over me completely for putting them in giant bell jar.  Their magic vibes are bursting at the seams…

They want to keep having enchanting voyages, maybe with you?  Anyhow, you can find them in my shop ;)  In my shop is the only place I have offered them for sale to date…

As for me and paper flowers.  I hate to admit this but.  I feel kind of funny.  Like, a tad achy, a tad not myself.  OH NO!  I have not had a real cold in 2 years.  I hope to all hopes I am not getting sick.  I am the saddest sick girl on the planet, I don't like it one lil' bit, not one lil' bit I tell ya…

This afternoon, I sat on the edge of my bed for a moment feeling a little noodley, and then I felt this intense delightment surrounding me.

Paper flowers 11

Could it have been fairies?  That or I have increasing nutcake tendencies…

Paper flowers 8

I peeked out the window looking for signs…

Paper flowers 9

There is something about the sun setting and glimmering through the trees that is positively holding my heart captive these days.

The other day, under that very tree I see through my window, Mister Lovee and I stood, his arm around me.  I said, I never want this (this meaning this pleasant love and life we are having) to end.  He squeezed me tight, and both of us let a tear slowly roll down our cheek…  How did we get so darn sentimental, sheeeesh 😉

(nevermind the wood post)

Paper flowers 10

What can I say.  It is a simple, happy little life.  Amazing what kind of life a person can have when they let go of expectations, and just embrace things in the very way that they are…

Paper flowers 3

As I end my day cutting paper flowers I notice that Mister Lovee and I kind of look like these two, haha!

Paper flowers 1

So, I hope I don't get sick.  I hope, I hope, I hope…  Wait, don't I need ruby red slippers clicking while I say that?

My Fairy Manny Godfather (Godfather?) just walked in with ginger, oranges, garlic and a chicken, and soup (I was having pitiful veggie soup when he said he'd be right home with real lovely goods).  Soooo, wish me luck…

Got any super duper secrets to avoid getting sick when you feel a slight wind of it coming your way?

I have had a hearty dose of vitamin C, soup, water, juice…  I think I have some Airborne somewhere…

See you soooooooooon!

🖤 ,V

ps:  Wonderland has been ringing my door bell, the party is one month away, still lots of time for anyone who wants, to sign up

  1. Amy says:

I love Shel Silverstein. In grade school we had a little pagent where we’d all act out different poems of his. My favorite was “Boa Constrictor”. We brought our sleeping bags and got to pretend they were eating us haha. Those were the happy, carefree days 😀
I do hope you aren’t getting sick! It’s never any fun. I get sick quite often and easily…
As for secrets to feeling better. Chicken Ramen always does me good. Haha although I suppose it’s just another variation of chicken noodle soup huh? That and hot herbal and green teas, especially lemongrass and ginger.
    Feel better!

  2. Yvonne says:

Super hot chicken soup with diced jalapenos will get rid of those nasty cooties. The steam and spice will have you sweating out the yuckies. If it’s real bad I will follow it with “un trago” (a shot) of Tequila. A good nap afterwards will speed it up. If you also have a cough, you can throw in some fresh basil. Don’t forget the Vick’s Mentholatum! lol
    I hope you feel better.

  3. Oh I hope you don’t get sick…maybe just maybe you do need to rest up a little and not DO anything, it is hard I know, believe me I know but perhaps you should for a day or two?
Now please excuse me whilst I race over to your shop and introduce myself to your gorgeous girls,
    ttfn Kiss Noises Linda

  4. chelsea Ann says:

ugg it is past 1 AM and I am still up …can’t sleep, cant turn my brain off… and the worse is that everything I touch turns to mush!
    Hope you feel better soon.
    Chelsea Ann

  5. icantsew says:

hope no one with that dreaded swine flu has breathed on you!! (i dont know how dreaded it is but i still dont want you to get it ) i never know how to get over an icky sicky quickly. in our household it seems to last ‘FOREVA’ as we all pass it on to one another. i have been catching vomit lately as my youngest coughs and coughs until she cant take it any longer.
    oh the joys of motherhood…
    smooches for a speedy recovery.

  6. Chrisy says:

well darling you must rest….no other magical cures…just listen to your body…it wants to rest…go with it…

  7. Such wonderful dolls! My favorites are the Owl Girl and Duchess of the Masquerade Tea Party – but they’re all enchanting!
Take good care of yourself. I have no home cures to ward off colds. I get a darned cold every winter – and I hate them! I just lay in bed sleeping until they pass. If I must be miserable, I’m going to sleep through it!

  8. vivian says:

LOVE your blog, just signed up for your party!

  9. Hi 🙂
I just stumbled upon your blog and I’m speechless! Everythings so beautiful I feel like I’m in a museum filled with really beautiful stuff!
Off to look at everything now 🙂
    Samantha

  10. amy faldet says:

Transcience is what you are creating and it is good…
    Blessings.

  11. Vanessa I use Zicam. It shortens the cold and flu if you are getting it. I love the stuff. I will be praying that you are feeling much better. No fun being sick. I will send good healthy vibes your way. Hugs, Bobbi Jo

  12. marjorie says:

Awww, I hope your not getting sick….feel better soon!! 🙂 I think hot soup, hot tea and a nice rest are in order!! 🙂
Be well Miss Sweet cake! 🙂

  13. Cori. G says:

Oh Fanciful One! I MUST know what tutorial you used for your first picture!! I MUST I MUST!!!!
I’m so sorry to hear your feeling ill. That really is the pits, but it sounds like your Mister Lovee has everything under control and don’t worry about the wood post :). It’s good to be sentimental and mushy. It means your alive and your tender hearted.
What…what?…what is that I hear? OH! Your little dolls are whispering that they want to be let out of that jar. It’s cramped and their noses are stuck to the glass, besides how can they get into mischief when they feel like fire flies trapped in a jar? I promised them you would let them out!!! Have you done it yet ;0???
I hope you are feeling better soon…maybe it’s just the pixie dust that they flew home with…from their wings to your nose…tee hee!!
    xoxo me

  14. Yoli says:

This place is always full of magic and imagination.

  15. carolee says:

Sending all kinds of healing thoughts and positive vibes your way! I’ve just recovered from a bout with the dreaded “plague” myself, although thanks to Airborne (2-3 times a day) and Celestial Seasonings Echinacea Cold Care tea, it was only a five day version of the plague and not the TWO WEEK version my husband endured. So much for his insistence Airborne doesn’t work. I swear by it.
It’s difficult even for a few days though, because the creative ideas are still there, spinning around in one’s head, but there’s no energy to DO anything about it – very frustrating!
Anyway – rest, Airborne, tea, and lots of TLC from the Mr…..That’s my prescription. 😉
    Be well!
    🖤 Carolee

  16. deborah says:

I love the view from your country place…it feels like home. Everything is so…right. One of the most calming things in life is to live on one patch of earth over many, many years, to learn the lighting of every season, to know the dirt, what will grow where…to know the time of year and hour of the day that the sun will hit the blades of grass to create Easter Green…everything changes and yet remains the same. Love is like that…just don’t let go. However, my beloved Magical Muse, give yourself permission to sleep and rest. Best way to avoid the illness taking over. **blows sterile, germ-free kisses** Deborah

  17. Laura says:

I hope your magic tea did the trick to cure you from the ickies! Orange juice is good too – lots of fluids!

  18. Sending merry pixie dust dreams your way Miss V! Perhaps it is just your body saying “slow down, silly!” Pay attention and don’t fight it…but do let all those who love you pamper you with goodness.
I tend to drink a lot of tea when I don’t feel well. And I don’t care for soup, only ask for it when I am sick (that is how I know). There must be someone there who will make you the real homemade chicken noodle sort. Do be good to yourself.

  19. Sarah says:

    Hi Vanessa,
Slow down, lie down, get more sleep, drink more of the weird yet health giving tea!
    Hope you feel better soon.
    Sarah x

  20. Oh no! Don’t get sick! Stay in bed. Sort through your treasures while lying in bed. Let Mr. Lovee wait on you! Sounds good to me!

  21. Vanessa:
The moon and sky above you, there in the vastness of Arizona…is that the same moon and sky above me here in the polluted and congested place called Southern California? Oh how I wish my moon looked like your moon!
And…what I do to feel better when I have a bad cold is add hot sauce to absolutely everything! I especially love a huge dash of Cholula in my Vegetable soup. That actually sounds very good right now, as my throat is feeling a wee bit off this morning.

  22. I really want to get that CD now! And I love your beautiful art dolls! They are so unique and altogether perfect!

  23. Donna says:

Your posts are always so…enchanting.Whether it’s about creating, lounging over the weekend or simply getting the mail from the mailbox.
    I love it!
If theres a cold or flu out there,it will find me.Sometimes I am so sick I beg the hubby to take me out(to the back) and shoot me…old expression.I also work with children(preschool)with lots of snotty little green noses..yuck!So yea,I get sick alot.I drink alot of orange juice! There are also Vitamin C candies.Who wouldn’t want to eat hard handies ALL day and declare they are good for you??!!

  24. Get well soon!! Don’t get siiick.
I’ve been a bit under the weather for a week until yesterday – and at the same time boucing around like a happy bouncy ball – and missed the great 6-hour annual concert I love to go to. And I’m super bad at relaxing, don’t know how.
Beautiful post + pictures. And those Shel Silverstein books!!! I left a comment about one of his poems when it was your dog’s birthday 😀 “They could have sung me just one song to kind of sort of celebrate….” That one.

  25. Shell says:

The best thing to head off a cold is the following: stay in bed, watch your favorite movies, eat your favorite desserts. (Preferably chocolate!) It always works for me.
I just finished Alice in Wonderland. I’m now starting Through the looking glass. The stories are magical and trippy all rolled together. I do love the Chesire cat. He is adorable.
Now listen to Dr. Shell and get to bed. I’ll know because one of your Dolls will send me a message via one of your local faeries who is a cousin to my house faerie.

  26. Thanks for writing, Vanessa! I’ll buy those songs on ITUNES…for my IPOD! I’m like you…I usually only like a few of the songs on a CD! You’re so SWEET! Visit me soon!

  27. Kathy in Chicago says:

Honey, ginger, GARLIC (?) tea? Wow, if that doesn’t kill ya it sure the heck would have to CURE ya! Zicam works pretty well. Sitting out in the sun always makes me feel better, too. You’ve got too much good Chi zipping around you to be sick for long. Love what you’ve been doing with your Photoshopped pics. Take care kiddo. Be well. – Kathy in Chicago

I have sneezes, head ache and a runny nose…allergies…I drive by certain fields and my head fills up.
Could yours be allergies? I have it so bad at time that I get a fever.
Get well!!! Slow down!!! Watch a movie, Out of Africa is always a favorite of mine esp. the hair washing scene.

  30. Yummmy, all of your ingredients sound de-lish Ms. V! I do hope you are feeling better and don’t get sick. I LOVE Shel Silverstein too, fun books to relax to. And so glad you are sharing your wonderful Art Dolls…they are gorgeous!

  32. Miss Elainey B says:

I agree with everyone :~) Lots of liquids and plenty of rest!!!
    Two other movie recommendations~
The Secret Garden ~~I like the PBS version from several years ago better than the theatrical version, but both are heartwarming!
Pollyanna~~again the PBS version from a few years ago, but I’d love to see the Haley Mills version again!
I may have to move to Tucson just for the sky!!!

  33. Paris Parfait says:

Oh, let’s hope all the TLC you are receiving keeps the flu away, ma petite gateaux des noix! The art dolls are so beautiful and no doubt, they’ll find lovely homes. A very romantic tale of your contentment w/ your love and your life. Very lovely and life-affirming. xoxox

    Take Care,
    Tracy M.

  35. ooooh… shel silverstein! that ought to make you feel better!
but in case it doesn’t, well,i am a big believer in garlic. whenever i am feeling poorly i either insist to my mr. that we head over to lola’s on esplanade where they make this whipped garlic oil that will seep out of your skin for DAYS — or i make my own batch of garlic laden red sauce ( spaghetti sauce to the rest of the non new orleanians) and i tell you, i always fight it off!!!
garlic. good for the immune system.
    and warding off vampires.
    hope you feel better soon!

  38. Jamie Watson says:

I loved this post. I haven’t had the chance to try it yet myself, but a checker at Whole Foods recently told me that his family gets amazing results using this ancient Mexican Indian recipe: Oregano tea with honey. Just steep 1 tsp dried oregano (or 3 tbsp fresh crushed herb) in boiling water for 10 minutes and add honey to improve the taste.

  39. Chris says:

I think I know just what you mean, about wanting to slow down, but having yet one more think your mind is busy working on and planning… It’s hard to stop sometimes! Are those dolls amazing? I really love them.
    Smooches!!

  40. Chris says:

Heaventy Christmas, those dolls are just stunning. WOW.

  41. karen cox says:

    Hi Vanessa,
Gee your dolls look so cute in those jars. I don’t like it when I think I am getting sick. I usually spend one day in bed right away, sipping tea, eating comfort food and sleeping, sleeping sleeping. The next day I am as good as new. Try that, sometimes your body is just trying to tell you to get some rest. Feel better.
P.S. Don’t forget to add me to your list of partners for your party.
    Karen

  42. Frankie Kins says:

I swear by Airbornne. It works for me.
I hope it works for you. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. Get better. We don’t want you feeling “noodly”.

So many wonderful remedies!!! You are bound to feel better by now!!?? Did you catch the light? Right by the grove of trees? I am sure they are having a gathering. They must be excited about the tea party!!
    Be well dear one
    Hugs
    SueAnn

  45. Laura Bray says:

I have a horrible cold right now & don’t wish it on anyone. To offset oncoming colds, I usually gargle with Listerine and use saline nose spray. The germs populate in your nose and back of throat, so this tends to keep them from taking over. Good luck. If you do get sick, you are welcome to join my daughter & I for PB&J sandwiches and tea in bed. That’s what we’re doing right now!

  46. Rima St.John says:

Vanessa….Try “Zicam”…it really works, purchase the kind that are small sticks that you stick up the nose, has helped me many times and voila , no cold..love, love your blog!!
    Hugs,
    Rima

  47. Martha says:

Oh I hope you’re not sick Vanessa! As mom would say, plenty of rest and fluids.

  49. I ADORE schmoopy romantic moments like the one you have with Mr. Lovee!

  50. Jill Cooper says:

Airborne, Zicam, and Cold-Eze all at the same time. And some spirulina wouldn’t hurt either. Feel better soon!

  51. shibori girl says:

Hmmmm, how not to get sick? I think long lovely naps in the gypsy bedroom and Mr Lovee serenading you with some quiet love songs would help. And foot rubs! DEFINITELY foot rubs!! 😀
I’m crossing my fingers that you don’t come down with a full-blown sickness….
    Big Hugs,
    Kate

  54. Katrine K says:

Your dolls are wonderful and so are the paper flowers!

  55. Shel Silverstein — ah. When Rick and I had our first Christmas together, we gave each other all kinds of toys, things we longed for as a child — Spirograph, Etch a Sketch, Silly Putty. And I got those books. I love them for so many reasons.
